Replacing a modest single family dwelling on a largely undisturbed +75 acre beachfront parcel, the planning and design for this residence began with a careful study of the opportunities and constraints presented by the natural site conditions. Mature vegetation, wetlands, beachfront sand dunes, and exposure to views and prevailing weather patterns were all factors in determining how the proposed residence, guest house, and pool would sit on the land. Additionally, the landscape through which the lengthy entry drive passes was carefully studied and sculpted to expose mature trees of specimen quality, enhance and expand existing clearings, and highlight streams and other areas of marshy wetland vegetation. The result is a casual, site specific and appropriate family compound that appears to have existed for generations.
