The small side garden of a West Hollywood bungalow was literally a blank slate; the client had removed all of the previous garden, paving, and features in an effort to ‘start the ball rolling’ before Gerrit Goss Landscape Architecture was called. During the course of the subsequent design process, a program to create a space for entertaining evolved, centered around a new built in BBQ and counter, a casual outdoor living room seating area, and a dining table. A fountain is just animated enough to drown out the sounds of the adjacent sidewalk on a charming West Hollywood street just steps from the design retail center. Plants were chosen for their color and texture as a backdrop to the new concrete terrace and a single standard olive tree will one day shade the garden. An herb planter and lemon tree make outdoor cooking even more appetizing.
